In a visit to the grand mansion of Great Northern Railway president James J. Hill, students will use critical thinking skills to discover how railroads transformed America at the turn of the 20th century. Guided tours highlight stories of Hill, his family, and their domestic employees to compare the past and present, as well as, discuss the impact that railroads had on the development of Minnesota as it exists today.

The James J. Hill House is a location of the Minnesota Historical Society. Bring your students to the places where history was made and where it is preserved. MNHS locations offer a wide variety of field trip experiences suitable to a wide range of grade levels and learning goals. Engage your students and bring history to life!
