SUMMARY:Soldiers of the American Revolution
DESCRIPTION:The American Revolution was America’s first civil war. It would split the country between Loyalists\, those who wanted to stay loyal to the king\, and Patriots\, those who wanted to separate from Great Britain to become an independent and sovereign nation. How could we\, as a people\, go from being proud that we were British subjects and part of the greatest empire in the world\, to wanting our independence from the mother country\, in the span of just 10 years? Through drama\, role-playing\, and living history experiences\, participants will gain an understanding of : \n\n\n\n\nThe Causes of the Revolution\n\n\n\nImportant people of the Revolution\n\n\n\nImportant battles of the Revolution\n\n\n\nThe tactics and strategies of the war.\n\n\n\nThe cost of the war\, in terms of property and loss of life\n\n\n\nThe British viewpoint and attitudes toward the war\n\n\n\nThe typical soldier’s daily life\, uniform\, equipment and weapons\n\n\n\nThe results of the war; a new and better government and much\, much more.

SUMMARY:Minnesota's Wild & Woolly Prohibition Days at Waterville
DESCRIPTION:In 1920\, Minnesotans\, along with the rest of the country\, were plunged into what many called “The Great Experiment.” PROHIBITION. The manufacture\, sale and transportation of alcohol was outlawed by the Volstead Act. Parents became bootleggers\, kids smuggled illegal alcohol\, and outlaws became celebrities. When Congress passed the Eighteenth Amendment\, supporters believed it would create a better\, stronger nation. Instead it began an era of lawlessness\, when famous gangsters like Al Capone rose to fame. After an agreement between bootlegging gangsters and the police\, St. Paul became a “gangster haven.” As gangsters grabbed the headlines\, everyday Minnesotans quietly set up their own stills and speakeasies\, producing the\, what many considered\, the best corn liquor in the nation. Many Minnesotans were busted and went to jail\, some at Leavenworth Penitentiary in Kansas. Why take the risk? When WWI ended many farmers found themselves in danger of losing their farms. Producing moonshine for sale was one way to avoid foreclosure. Desperate situations call for desperate acts. Meet the drys\, wets\, gangsters\, flappers\, lawmen and suffragists of America’s most colorful\, complex constitutional hiccup in Minnesota’s Wild and Woolly Prohibition Days.

SUMMARY:Minnesota in the Vietnam War
DESCRIPTION:Minnesota in the Vietnam War \n\n\n\n2018 was the 50th anniversary of the TET OFFENSIVE during the Vietnam War. Even though it was a major defeat for the Communist forces\, it was a turning point in the conflict because it turned a large portion of the American public against war. Controversy continues to swirl around America’s involvement in the Vietnam conflict. Who were the Vietnamese and what was their fight all about? How did the United States get into the war? What were the strategic\, diplomatic and domestic factors that determined the way we fought the war? The Vietnam War cost the nation 56\,000 lives\, 300\,000 wounded\, 1\,200 missing in action\, and $141 billion. Unlike previous wars where returning GIs came home to a grateful nation\, Vietnam veterans were at best ignored and at worst shunned and sometimes persecuted for their service. \n\n\n\nMany years would pass before Americans would show their appreciation for the sacrifices made by these veterans\, finally reversing the shameful treatment they previously had endured. This multimedia presentation will use power-point\, video\, music\, drama\, role-playing and living history experiences\, to give us an understanding of this turbulent time and make history come alive. The presenter will describe the increasing commitment of each of five American presidents\, the rising antiwar protests at home and eventual U.S. withdrawal from Vietnam\, and the lingering tragic effects of a war that had never been declared.
