DESCRIPTION:The Austin ArtWorks Festival is a free two-day event in Austin\, Minnesota held annually each August — a celebration of visual\, performing\, and literary artists\, many with ties to Austin and the area. \n\n\n\nThe Austin ArtWorks Festival is Saturday and Sunday\, August 24 – 25 in the heart of Austin MN! \n\n\n\nWhat is this “ArtWorks Festival?” The festival is a free two-day event in Austin\, Minnesota held annually each August — a celebration of visual\, performing\, and literary artists\, many with ties to Austin and the area. \n\n\n\nDoes it cost anything? Nope! Although you might want to bring some cash in case you want to grab a couple of super neat prints\, a piece of original artwork\, books\, or food. (It’s a safe bet you’ll find something that catches your fancy. Just saying.) \n\n\n\nWho are you people? Good question. We are Austin Area Arts\, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit\, and a whole bunch of volunteers who donate their time\, brains\, and muscles to carry off this crazy awesome event. \n\n\n\nAustin Area Arts also oversees the Austin ArtWorks Center and Historic Paramount Theatre in downtown Austin. Through our venues and the ArtWorks Festival\, we strive to bring together artists and art lovers\, and to make our community better through the power of art in its many forms.

DESCRIPTION:Event Information\n\n\n\nWacipi—or powwow—is a traditional Native American gathering\, a celebration of life\, pride\, and honor. Meaning “they dance” in the Dakota language\, today’s wacipi brings together people from all over the country for three days of celebrating in a good way. It is a time for preserving a rich heritage\, while reconnecting with old friends and making new friends. \n\n\n\nGrand Entry sets the stage for each day’s contests and activities\, which includes a ceremonious entrance into the dance arena\, led by a Native American veteran color guard\, visiting dignitaries\, and tribal royalty\, followed by hundreds of dancers of all ages. Representing dozens of tribes from across the United States and Canada\, dancers dressed in traditional regalia compete for top honors in various dance style categories and age groups\, while drum groups and singers surround the perimeter of the arena. Native American artists and crafters display traditional beadwork\, jewelry\, and handmade goods\, while food vendors offer a variety of tasty\, authentic meals and treats. \n\n\n\nThe SMSC’s Wacipi attracts thousands of visitors each year to honor the history of a strong group of people. Was the victim killed by a giant walking catfish or is the culprit a little less sensational? The mystery will unfold as you walk through Crosby Farm and you can help figure out who was responsible! \n\n\n\nMississippi Park Connection and the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area\, in collaboration with Fearless Comedy Productions\, will bring an immersive murder mystery theatrical experience to life\, Mystery of the Mississippi. \n\n\n\nThe show will be an hour long from beginning to end. He is responsible for designing\, developing and coordinating both formal education and MPC membership programs that allow individuals and groups to better understand the relationship humans have with the river.  He is the main point of contact for teachers who are registering for school programs\, including Big River Journey\, Winter River\, Take Me to the River\, and online programs\, among others. He also coordinates the River Educator Program that places highly skilled environmental educators on school field trips.David holds a masters degree in strategic communications and uses his skills in public relations\, social media\, and interpersonal communication to contribute to his success in developing and implementing innovative educational programs and connecting with multiple park partners. He is also an accomplished educator with a wealth of experience in both formal and theater education. He served for over 15 years as a secondary education instructor\, including overseas at Myanmar International School. His passion for theater is evident in his roles as a producer and director of multiple stage shows\, as well as being an improv acting instructor at the Brave New Workshop Theater where he taught for 18 years. \n\n\n\n\n\nBreanna TryggEducation & Outreach DirectorBreanna grew up in Minnesota\, spending time in the woods and waters as much as possible\, especially at her family’s cabin in Voyageurs National Park. As the Education and Outreach Director at Voyageurs Conservancy Breanna leads the K-12\, Field Fellows\, and Love Your Park programming in partnership with Voyageurs National Park. Breanna attended University of Puget Sound for her undergraduate degree\, and has a Masters in Organizational Leadership from Pinchot University. She began her career at the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife\, then served as Program Director at Pacific Education Institute\, an environmental education organization that focused on school-community partnerships. In 2015 she started Trygg Consulting\, LLC\, and worked with nonprofits\, government\, education organizations\, and multi-stakeholder initiatives to build their capacity to do great work.Breanna has volunteered with grieving children for over 18 years\, and considers grief support her “heart work”. After years of volunteering at Sound Care Kids and Camp Erin\, Breanna became a founding board member of Wild Grief\, and is the previous board president\, where she combines her passions of supporting grieving kids and connecting to nature. \n\n\n\n\n\nWendy TremblayCommunity Engagment ManagerWendy grew up in Stillwater\, Minnesota\, and attended UW-River Falls for her B.S. in Elementary Education.  Wendy has been connecting people to the outdoors throughout her career as a nature specialist at a private preschool\, a program coordinator at a wildflower garden\, and a naturalist at a city park. Wendy has 20 years of experience in education and 10 years in nonprofit management.  \n\n\n\nCurrently\, Wendy is the Community Engagement Manager with Wild Rivers Conservancy\, the nonprofit partner of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway where she oversees outdoor and education programs\, coordinates the internship program\, and supports the growing joint volunteer program while connecting people to the St. Croix River.
