SUMMARY:Season Finale: Strauss’ Metamorphosen with Gábor Takács-Nagy
DESCRIPTION:Artistic Partner Gábor Takács-Nagy returns for another consecutive season finale leading the orchestra for a program that touches on many of our 2025.26 season themes\, including the idea of music and art as hope and light. Written in the final and darkest days of World War II\, Richard Strauss’ monumental and emotional Metamorphosen mourns the corruption and destruction of German culture. This musical response to fascism\, written for 23 strings\, depicts a transformation from pain and darkness to hope and light\, with homages to his German predecessors including Johann Sebastian Bach\, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven. As our final piece\, Robert Schumann’s Rhenish Symphony references the flow of the Rhine River and the ceaseless flow of time — a natural bookend to our 2025.26 season\, which is framed by a quote from Schumann himself: “To send light into the depths of the human heart — this is the artist’s calling.”

Make your own fresh flower head wreath\, try out Midsommar specialties like Swedish strawberry cake\, and meet artists at the pop-up market. Or sit back and enjoy festive music from ASI’s affiliated music ensembles and special guests Lynx Lynx. \n\n\n\nPlease note that this is one of ASI’s busiest days of the year\, so tickets are sold in timed-entry slots before 1:30 pm. Tickets at the door are available for $21 for all adults and free for youth under 18 after 1:30 pm. Each ticket includes admission to the Turnblad Mansion and the brand-new exhibition\, Eyes as Big as Plates; make-and-take crafts; and access to all performances and pop-up activities. DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wanted to play music in the historic Turnblad Mansion? Now’s your chance! Bring your nyckelharpa\, hardingfele\, fiddle\, or any acoustic instrument to ASI’s Open Nordic Jam. This jam is open to musicians of any level who want to learn and play Nordic folk. Bring your friends or plan to make new ones here! \n\n\n\nMinnesota has long been known for its rich music scenes—in part due to the many immigrant diasporas that have established themselves in the area. From Nisswa-stämman to the Nordic Roots festival\, to the countless house jams across the state\, Nordic folk music is an important part of Minnesota’s musical identity. Whether you’re a master fiddler or want to learn more about folk music\, this monthly gathering is for you! \n\n\n\nThis jam is facilitated by ASI staff\, but tunes are selected each time by musicians in the room. We will play standards and originals inspired by Swedish\, Norwegian\, Finnish\, Danish\, and Icelandic folk traditions. While many musicians may bring traditional instruments\, all acoustic instrumentalists are welcome to participate. If you do not play an instrument\, you can still attend if you respectfully observe and listen. Dancing is encouraged but not required—see you there! \n\n\n\nNo registration required\, attendees must purchase museum admission. DESCRIPTION:Join us on the Mesabi Trail for the most fun you can have on two wheels! \n\n\n\nWhile you pedal (fully supported) along one of Minnesota’s premiere paved bicycle trails you will encounter historic & scenic points of interest\, enjoy food\, music\, activities at rest stops\, and a finish line celebration complete with lunch and more music! \n\n\n\nWhichever route you choose\, you will experience the same outstanding customer service and reliable logistics we’ve become famous for since 2005! \n\n\n\nCost is $55 per person age 17 and older – kids 16 and under are $10 for first kid and the rest are FREE! \n\n\n\nNew for 2026: We’re excited to announce an SCENIC tour route! We will be riding between Embarrass to McKinley\, showcasing the Laurentian Section and many beautiful overlook sections of the Mesabi Trail. The route will be out and back. \n\n\n\nSelecting Your Route: \n\n\n\n\nThe Mesabi Trail is not a rail-to-trail conversion…it is NOT flat & straight\, there are a number of hills (some steep) and curves (some sharp).\n\n\n\nPLEASE select your route according to your abilities to assure you will be able to finish the tour in a timely fashion.\n\n\n\nWhile this public trail is open at all times\, our tour volunteers will be on the course only until about 4:00 pm.\n\n\n\nYou will encounter TWO-WAY bicycle traffic on the Mesabi Trail. Please stay to your right on the trail and share the trail.\n\n\n\n\nThe tour is a fundraiser for the Mesabi Trail and Club Mesabi\, the “Friends” of the Mesabi Trail.

DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wanted to play music in the historic Turnblad Mansion? Now’s your chance! Bring your nyckelharpa\, hardingfele\, fiddle\, or any acoustic instrument to ASI’s Open Nordic Jam. This jam is open to musicians of any level who want to learn and play Nordic folk. Bring your friends or plan to make new ones here! \n\n\n\nMinnesota has long been known for its rich music scenes—in part due to the many immigrant diasporas that have established themselves in the area. From Nisswa-stämman to the Nordic Roots festival\, to the countless house jams across the state\, Nordic folk music is an important part of Minnesota’s musical identity. Whether you’re a master fiddler or want to learn more about folk music\, this monthly gathering is for you! \n\n\n\nThis jam is facilitated by ASI staff\, but tunes are selected each time by musicians in the room. We will play standards and originals inspired by Swedish\, Norwegian\, Finnish\, Danish\, and Icelandic folk traditions. While many musicians may bring traditional instruments\, all acoustic instrumentalists are welcome to participate. If you do not play an instrument\, you can still attend if you respectfully observe and listen. Dancing is encouraged but not required—see you there! \n\n\n\nNo registration required\, attendees must purchase museum admission.
