SUMMARY:ASI Annual Crayfish Party
DESCRIPTION:August is kräftskiva or crayfish party season in Sweden\, so celebrate at the American Swedish Institute with an outdoor party full of lights\, bright colors\, festive lanterns\, and of course\, lots of crayfish! Enjoy live music under the stars in the courtyard as we share a traditional Swedish crayfish dinner complete with good breads\, strong cheeses\, salads\, and Swedish paj (think quiche). Come ready to don a party hat and raise your glass to drinking songs for this beloved end-of-summer tradition. \n\n\n\nDoors open at 6 pm\, and dinner begins at 7 pm. Ticket includes a full crayfish dinner\, a party hat\, bib\, snapsvisor songbook\, and a shot of aquavit for all guests age 21+. This event moves indoors during poor weather.

Audiences of all ages alternate between laughter and amazement as science and circus combine. The Circus Science Spectacular originated through a unique partnership with professional educators. Steve Russell and Kobi Shaw worked side-by-side with teachers in classroom settings\, incorporating circus arts in the instruction of core curriculum concepts. All of the content is researched and tried\, supporting actual concepts of science! Trained by Ringling Brothers Circus\, Steve and Kobi’s performing skills in comedy\, juggling\, magic and balancing bring the dimensions of novelty\, surprise\, and fun to the mix. So\, step right up! SUMMARY:Gus Macker Basketball Tournament
DESCRIPTION:A Gus Macker Tournament is designed for basketball players who love the fun of the driveway game—male or female\, age 8 to 50-plus\, short and tall\, the most experienced or those with little or no experience who just want to play. \n\n\n\nWhy: To continue to grow this community focused fun yet competitive 3 on 3 basketball tournament. Proceeds are given to five designated non-profit recipients that focus on local youth athletics and mentorship. \n\n\n\nTeams receive at least three scheduled games. \n\n\n\nMacker is a double-elimination tournament\, but with a consolation bracket historically called “The Toilet Bowl” for teams that lose the first two games. Toilet bowl trophies are coveted. \n\n\n\nFamily fun\, in a festival atmosphere\, is always the goal of a Gus Macker. It proudly serves as the most popular basketball tournament for outdoor play on downtown streets\, parking lots and community parks across the country.

This year they are revisiting one of their favorite productions\, The Return of King Idomeneo. First created in 2012\, this adaptation of Mozart’s 1781 opera Idomeneo\, re di Creta (Idomeneo\, King of Crete)\, was a breakout production for Mixed Precipitation and exemplified their playful and passionate outdoor performance style. \n\n\n\nDetails\n\n\n\nWhere: Caponi Art ParkCost: All performances are offered for a suggested donation ($5 – $45). This performance is fun for all ages.Parking: Main parking lot may be limited. Overflow parking at the Lexington-Diffley Skate ParkAdditional Information: Bring lawn chairs or blankets.
