SUMMARY:Wanderers: An Evening of Klezmer with Psoy Korolenko & Polina Shepherd
DESCRIPTION:Presented in partnership by The Museum of Russian Art (TMORA) and KAMINIn collaboration with Ilana Volodarsky and RAJMN (Russian-American Jews in Minnesota) \n\n\n\nJoin Psoy Korolenko and Polina Shepherd\, two genre-defying\, multilingual powerhouses of Yiddish and Russian music\, for an unforgettable evening of song\, poetry\, and spellbinding storytelling. \n\n\n\nPerforming together as The Stranniki (“Wanderers”)\, this dynamic duo weaves together 19th–20th century folklore\, literature\, and original compositions that traverse themes of travel\, identity\, and cultural fusion. SUMMARY:The Ordway Presents
DESCRIPTION:Kimberly Akimbo\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe most Tony Award-winning show of its season \n\n\n\nThe 2023 Tony-winner for Best Musical\, based on David Lindsay-Abaire’s play of the same title\, revolves around a teenage girl named Kimberly Levaco\, who suffers from a condition that rapidly accelerates the aging process. Before she has had a chance to venture forth into the world as an adult\, she finds herself turning into an old woman. Her story\, unfolding like a dark fairy tale\, is as whimsical as it is piercing. Yet the effect is powerfully life-affirming in the way it reminds audiences of the preciousness of the time we have at hand. Full of quirky humor and social satire on grownup immaturity\, the musical features a score by Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home) and David Lindsay-Abaire (Shrek) that will leave you both grinning and deeply touched. \n\n\n\n\nHilarious and heartbreaking… Wise\, original\, moving.— The Washington Post \n\n\n\n\nThe most critically-acclaimed show of its season\, Kimberly Akimbo also features choreography by Danny Mefford (Dear Evan Hansen) and direction by Tony-nominated director Jessica Stone (Water for Elephants). In this “howlingly funny heartbreaker of a show” (The New Yorker)\, Kim is determined to find happiness against all odds and embark on a great adventure. \n\n\n\n\nA revelation. A perfect night of theater.— Time Magazine \n\n\n\n\nContent considerations\n\n\n\nAges 13+ (some strong language\, crude humor\, references to alcohol use\, and authentic New Jersey vernacular)

SUMMARY:Open Nordic Jam
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wanted to play music in the historic Turnblad Mansion? Now’s your chance! Bring your nyckelharpa\, hardingfele\, fiddle\, or any acoustic instrument to ASI’s Open Nordic Jam. This jam is open to musicians of any level who want to learn and play Nordic folk. Bring your friends or plan to make new ones here! \n\n\n\nMinnesota has long been known for its rich music scenes—in part due to the many immigrant diasporas that have established themselves in the area. From Nisswa-stämman to the Nordic Roots festival\, to the countless house jams across the state\, Nordic folk music is an important part of Minnesota’s musical identity. Whether you’re a master fiddler or want to learn more about folk music\, this monthly gathering is for you! \n\n\n\nThis jam is facilitated by ASI staff\, but tunes are selected each time by musicians in the room. We will play standards and originals inspired by Swedish\, Norwegian\, Finnish\, Danish\, and Icelandic folk traditions. While many musicians may bring traditional instruments\, all acoustic instrumentalists are welcome to participate. If you do not play an instrument\, you can still attend if you respectfully observe and listen. Dancing is encouraged but not required—see you there! \n\n\n\nNo registration required\, attendees must purchase museum admission. Free for performers. \n\n\n\nThis event is part of the Open Nordic Jam Series
