SUMMARY:Sidekick Theatre Presents Birthday Candles
DESCRIPTION:April 15 – May 17\, 2026 \n\n\n\nThe ingredients for the cake are simple: eggs\, butter\, sugar\, salt. Look closer\, though\, and you’ll see the essence of life itself. Every year\, Ernestine bakes a cake and celebrates with her family on her birthday — a delicious ritual that unfolds onstage across 90 years of birthdays. We meet Ernestine and the people who sweeten her life every year on this day as she grows from 17 to 107 years old. Through glimpses of Ernestine’s life as the years go by\, Birthday Candles tenderly explores motherhood\, family\, love\, loss and finding your place in the universe. \n\n\n\nThis charming new play\, recently on Broadway\, will warm the soul.Wednesday & Thursday Matinees @ 1pm:Individual Tkt: $34Individual Lunch & Show: $60 (Lunch at 11:30am / By reservation only)Group Tkt for 10+: $29Group Lunch & Show for 10+: $51 (Lunch at 11:30am / By reservation only) \n\n\n\nSaturdays @ 7:30pm:Individual Tkt: $38Individual Dinner and Show (available on select performances): $66 (Dinner at 6pm / By reservation only)“Friends Night Out” Group Discount Tkts for 4+: $32Group Dinner & Show (available on select performances): $60 (Dinner at 6pm / By reservation only) \n\n\n\nSundays @ 1pm:Individual Tkt: $38Individual Brunch & Show: $66 (Brunch at 11:30am / By reservation only)Group Tkt for 10+: $32Group Brunch & Show for 10+: $57 (Brunch at 11:30am / By reservation only)Click Here For Meal Menus(All Theatre Seating is General Admission)

SUMMARY:FREE Courtroom Concert: Music of David Evan Thomas
DESCRIPTION:Music of David Evan Thomas\, featuring Rod Kelly Hines\, baritone; Joni Griffith\, soprano; Casey Rafn\, piano \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRod Kelly Hines is a classically trained baritone and versatile artist who enjoys performing in a variety of genres. He feels most at home in choral ensembles\, enjoying the spectrum of artistry that he is able to explore within a vast range of musical styles. From 2018-2021 he was a member of the Brooklyn-based ensemble Choral Chameleon\, under the direction of Vince Peterson. In 2019 he became an inaugural member of EXIGENCE Vocal Ensemble\, directed by Dr. Eugene Rogers. He received a Master of Music in Voice Performance from Georgia State University in Atlanta\, GA\, where he performed roles such as: Papageno in Die Zauberflöte (Mozart)\, Peter in Hansel and Gretel (Humperdinck)\, and Masetto in Don Giovanni (Mozart). He was also a featured soloist in the opera Silent Night by Kevin Puts\, presented by The Atlanta Opera in their 2017-18 season. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen not on her bicycle\, Joni Griffith can be found performing as an actor\, instrumentalist\, and vocalist. An Iowa native\, Joni first came to Minneapolis to complete her Bachelors in Vocal Performance from the University of Minnesota where she immersed herself in the vibrant performance scene of the Twin Cities\, performing everywhere from bars to vineyards. She is a central member of Minneapolis theater company Mixed Precipitation as well as a frequent collaborator with Combustible Company and and associate artist with The Birth Play Project. \n\n\n\nEqually at home on the violin as with her voice\, Joni enjoys performing as a theatrical vocalist\, composer\, voice over artist\, and gigging musician. She writes music and sings with her favorite indie glam-pop band d’lakes\, as well as plays synth and back up vocals for KYM & The Kick! She frequently plays violin and musical saw with other local musicians\, as well as touring bands and ensembles. \n\n\n\nIn addition to performing\, Joni has written\, recorded\, and performed original music for multiple shows in the midwest and east coast\, including composing the choral harmonies for ANTI-GONE (Needs More Work Productions) – awarded “Best Tragedy” of the 2025 NYC Fringe Festival. Original music credits include: A Midsummer Night’s Dream\, Monster Heart\, The Tempest\, Measure for Measure\, and the dance film Elemental Body. \n\n\n\nShe has co-created several performance art pieces\, blending music\, physical theatre\, text\, and imagery – including Crone House\, an immersive\, site-specific piece exploring the archetype of the crone and the maiden in modern society\, and Driftwomen which toured to Duluth and Indiana. \n\n\n\nIn the spring of 2019\, she completed a solo bicycle ride across the United States of America\, spanning almost 4\,000 miles in three months. Many of her adventures can be found on her Youtube channel – a place where she seeks to fuse her love of music with her passion for cycling in a fun and educational manner. www.jonigriffith.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMinneapolis-based pianist Casey Rafn enjoys a varied career both in the US and abroad. As a collaborative pianist\, he has performed at venues in Latin America\, Canada\, New York City\, and across the US. He is a member of the saxophone-piano trio {Trés}\, which is currently nominated for a Grammy for their work with jazz saxophonist Miguel Zenon. He has performed with the Minnesota Orchestra\, and can often be found as a chamber musician with members of that orchestra\, as well as members of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra\, and also faculty from the University of Minnesota. Apart from his collaborative work\, he enjoys solo playing\, having taken top prizes at the International Liszt-Garrison Competition in Baltimore\, as well as appearing as a soloist with Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra. He has held positions at the University of Minnesota School of Music\, SPCPA\, and Lundstrum Performing Arts in North Minneapolis.

SUMMARY:Open Nordic Jam
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wanted to play music in the historic Turnblad Mansion? Now’s your chance! Bring your nyckelharpa\, hardingfele\, fiddle\, or any acoustic instrument to ASI’s Open Nordic Jam. This jam is open to musicians of any level who want to learn and play Nordic folk. Bring your friends or plan to make new ones here! \n\n\n\nMinnesota has long been known for its rich music scenes—in part due to the many immigrant diasporas that have established themselves in the area. From Nisswa-stämman to the Nordic Roots festival\, to the countless house jams across the state\, Nordic folk music is an important part of Minnesota’s musical identity. Whether you’re a master fiddler or want to learn more about folk music\, this monthly gathering is for you! \n\n\n\nThis jam is facilitated by ASI staff\, but tunes are selected each time by musicians in the room. We will play standards and originals inspired by Swedish\, Norwegian\, Finnish\, Danish\, and Icelandic folk traditions. While many musicians may bring traditional instruments\, all acoustic instrumentalists are welcome to participate. If you do not play an instrument\, you can still attend if you respectfully observe and listen. Dancing is encouraged but not required—see you there! \n\n\n\nNo registration required\, attendees must purchase museum admission. Free for performers. \n\n\n\nThis event is part of the Open Nordic Jam Series
