SUMMARY:Gloria! Vivaldi's Four Seasons
DESCRIPTION:Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and the lesser-known Gloria RV 588 offer a captivating journey through the creative mind of the famous Red Priest. An exciting concert where sparks fly. Violinist Alan Choo dazzles with electrifying brilliance\, joined by the luminous voices of the women’s choir of the Bach Society. \n\n\n\nTwo-time JUNO Award winning conductor\, composer\, recorder\, and flute soloist Matthias Maute has achieved an international reputation. In 2016 he was named artistic director of the Bach Society of Minnesota and in 2019 of the professional choir Ensemble vocal Arts-Québec. The New York Times described the orchestra he conducts in Montreal\, Ensemble Caprice\, as “an ensemble that encourages the listener to rehear the world.” Maute’s recording of Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos juxtaposed with his own arrangements of Preludes from Shostakovich’s Op. 87 was hailed by The New Yorker as standing out “for its fleet\, characterful approach” and “its fresh\, vibrant colors”. Maute’s compositions are published by Breitkopf & Härtel\, Amadeus\, Moeck and Carus. He has made some twenty recordings on the Analekta\, Vanguard Classics\, Bella Musica\, Dorian\, Bridge and ATMA Classique labels. \n\n\n\nViolinist Alan Choo\, praised by The Straits Times as “an intoxicating brew of poetry and dare-devilry\,” is an acclaimed soloist\, chamber musician\, and historical performance specialist. He is Concertmaster and Assistant Artistic Director of Apollo’s Fire\, and Founder and Artistic Director of Red Dot Baroque\, Singapore’s first professional period ensemble. He has performed as a soloist with ensembles including the FVG Orchestra (Italy)\, St. Petersburg Symphony\, and Singapore Symphony\, and has appeared at major festivals such as Tanglewood and Ravinia. \n\n\n\nA recipient of multiple awards including the Early Music Award from Peabody Conservatory\, Alan holds a Doctorate in Historical Performance from Case Western Reserve University. His debut solo album with Apollo’s Fire\, featuring Biber’s Mystery Sonatas\, was released on AVIE Records in 2024 and debuted at #2 on the Billboard Classical chart. \n\n\n\nFounded in 1932\, the Bach Society of Minnesota is one of North America’s oldest Bach ensembles. Renowned for historically informed performances on period instruments\, the Society brings to life the music of Bach and beyond. Now in Artistic Director Matthias Maute’s 10th year\, the organization continues to foster collaboration\, excellence\, and community through music that spans Bach and his contemporaries to innovative modern works. \n\n\n\nLearn more at www.bachsocietymn.org
