THE MUSEUM OF RUSSIAN ART | Geometric Abstraction & More

Give your students a memorable experience with abstract art at TMORA. We welcome student groups FREE OF CHARGE for activity-based workshops and interactive guided tours.

Here’s what TMORA offers for teachers and students:

Interactive guided museum tours at TMORA: Trained Museum Guides lead students through participatory tour experiences, supporting visual literacy development and encouraging creativity. Exhibitions during the coming school year include A Thousand Nesting Dolls, a uniquely interactive look at the popular folk craft; Forest Mushrooms, exploring the critical role of fungi in ecosystems through art; and Geometric Abstraction, focusing on line, color, and shape. We’ll address MN academic standards in Visual Arts, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science.

Activity-based experiences at our Education Center: Small groups of students rotate through our exhibition space and makerspace, participating in a range of gallery activities (drawing, movement, discussion, writing) and then creating an artwork inspired by what they’ve experienced in the gallery. Activities are primarily designed to connect with Visual Arts, Language Arts, and Social Studies.

In-class workshops to support implementation of MN state standards in your classroom: Workshops typically involve object-based learning designed around art and artifacts from our portable Education Collection, and/or connect to current exhibitions. Themes include: folktales and fairy tales; immigration; art in times of conflict; storytelling through art; culture through crafts; and, new this year, mushrooms in both art and ecology. We are always happy to develop new workshops based on educator requests. If you’d like to request a tailored lesson plan for your classroom, reach out to kmckay@tmora.org.
