Austin MN Summerset Theatre announces 2 fabulous summer productions! ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ and ‘The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee’. Community Theatre at its finest!
Summerset Theatre productions take place each summer in the Frank W. Bridges Theatre, located on the Austin campus of Riverland College in Austin MN.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a magical musical production. It is a reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, eleven brothers and the coat of many colors. Told entirely through song with the help of a main character Narrator, the musical follows preferred son Joseph. After being sold into slavery by his brothers, he ingratiates himself with Egyptian noble Potiphar, but ends up in jail after refusing the amorous advances of Potiphar’s wife. While imprisoned, Joseph discovers his ability to interpret dreams, and he soon finds himself in front of the mighty but troubled, Elvis-inspired, Pharaoh. Joseph’s solution to Egypt’s famine elevates him to Pharaoh’s right-hand man and reunites him with his family.
The performances will be June 19-21 and 25-28th.
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a riotous ride, complete with audience participation. An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. This bee is one unforgettable experience! The performances will be July 29-August 2.
Tickets go on sale in May of 2026.
