RIVERLORIAN PRODUCTIONS | A Visit From Will Dilg

100 years ago Will Dilg lead our first successful national grass-roots environmental movement which stopped the floodplain drainage of our Upper Mississippi River lands. Steven Marking plays Will Dilg in this 50 minute show that blends spectacular projected imagery with expert stage craft.

Will Dilg is an ecological giant that you may never have heard of. After suffering from the drowning death of his son in the early 1920’s, Dilg rose from the depths of depression to form the Izaak Walton League. Then, with the help of the National Federation of Women’s Clubs, they stopped the senseless drainage of our Upper Mississippi River lands and created the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge. The refuge is 261 miles long from Wabasha, Minnesota to Rock Island, Illinois.

A Visit From Will Dilg was created by Steven Marking for the Centennial Celebration the Refuge. This timely story marries entertainment and education and inspires us all to speak for the creatures that cannot speak for themselves.
Marking’s script relies heavily on Dilg’s own published words. The beauty of the native flora and fauna of the refuge are featured in this extraordinary and inspirational production.
