Head to ASI for two stunning exhibitions and a calendar full of unique programs and events to tap your creativity this spring.

ASI Spring Exhibitions, Programs, and Events

The American Swedish Institute (ASI) has two stunning new exhibitions on view. Experience Handwoven: Between Chaos and Order, a display the vibrant sensory textile works from expressive Swedish artist Emelie Röndahl. Emelie’s large-scale woven tapestries are on display throughout the Turnblad Mansion. Over 20 weavings using the traditional rya technique explore family, identity, and the evolving textile industry.

Also on view is Nordic Echoes: Tradition in Contemporary Art. This traveling exhibition curated by the American-Scandinavian Foundation features 44 works by 24 artists from the Upper Midwest. Several works are also on display nearby ASI at Norway House. The pieces span wood carving, textiles, clay, and metal, and each plays a role in challenging the dominant “heritage model” of ethnic folklore by emphasizing that “all tradition is change.” Modern tools, ideas, and skills have evolved traditional craft in amazing ways.
