Let the music find you this winter with Giraffes Can’t Dance, a joyful and heartwarming musical that celebrates self-expression, friendship, and the power of discovering your own rhythm. Running January 23 – February 22, 2026 on Stages Theatre Company’s Mainstage Theatre, this 60-minute production is perfect for audiences of all ages and first-time theatre-goers alike.

Meet Gerald, a gentle giraffe who dreams of dancing—but with his skinny legs and knobbly knees, he struggles just to walk without stumbling. When animals from around the world gather on the breathtaking West African Savanna for the Annual Jungle Dance, Gerald longs to join in but feels out of place among the confident and flashy dancers. With the help of his wise and encouraging friend Cricket, Gerald begins to discover that everyone has their own unique rhythm—and that dancing isn’t about being the best, but about being yourself.

Filled with playful animal antics, vibrant costumes, and dazzling music, Giraffes Can’t Dance brings dance styles and musical influences from across the globe to the stage. This lively production invites young audiences to move, groove, and celebrate differences while delivering a powerful message about confidence, kindness, and belonging. Whether you’re a longtime theatre lover or attending your very first show, this musical promises laughter, energy, and heartfelt moments from beginning to end.

This production features Book & Lyrics by Gloria Clunie with Music by Elton Bradman and Lila Oleszkiewicz, and is based on the beloved children’s book by Giles Andreae and Guy Parker-Rees. Directed by Kymani Kahlil, the creative team brings together storytelling, movement, and music to create an engaging theatrical experience that resonates with both children and adults.

Giraffes Can’t Dance is presented in collaboration with The Karen L. Charles Threads Dance Project, an organization dedicated to examining and celebrating the connections that unite us through dance. Their involvement adds an exciting layer of movement and artistry, enriching the production’s choreography and educational impact.

Group tickets are available, making this an ideal outing for school groups, classrooms, dance studios, scouts, and community organizations. Group audiences will enjoy special pricing and a shared experience that sparks conversation, creativity, and joy long after the curtain call.

Join Gerald and his jungle friends for a musical adventure that proves everyone can dance—when they find the music that lives inside them.
